the future for kids that ride
For anyone who does not know,
It is now illegal to sell ANY ATV designed for a child under the age of 13. This is across the country!!!!!
I know, I didn't beleive it either. The fact remains, that I myself, voted for this law, with out even knowing it. In our last election, one of the prop's was to make it illegal to sell toys in the United States with any amount of lead in them, due to lead exposure. They have extended this law to include all ATV's and Snowmobile's.
This is a law that srtikes very close to all of us, and I personally am very pissed, because I myself voted for this law. However never the less, I would like to ask all of you, my fellow ATV enthusiast to combine with the rest of the nation with people like ourselves, and sign what ever petition you can, in order to get this over turned. I am posting a link to a petition, but I am sure there are more, somehwhere. If you can, please post it here, so we all can fight this.
It is one thing to try and take land away from us, and it may just be possible that we are winning that side of the battle. Now it seems they are working on the other end of things, affecting our kids!
I don't know about you guys, but I do all of this for my kids! I love going out and riding, but the smile on my children's faces make all the struggle, effort, and money worth putting into in this sport we love so much.
Please post any and everything you can find about this law here or in Lucky's thread. As of now, I am almost positive the law only extends to the new sale of any ATV's designed for children under the age of 13. However their are many who are spreading what I only hope to be Rumors, that the law also says that the children can not ride, or that stores will no longer be able to sell parts or any apparel for children either. This meaning Helmets, gloves, chest protectors, etc. Again, as far as I am concerned these are only rumors and there is no info on the BLM's website that pertains to children not being able to ride. Only the fact that they need to be certified by the state in a safety course.
Please take this seriously and help us all out by doing whatever we can. I am not a person who has ANY type of experience in matters such as this, so if there is anything we all should know, please bring it to all of our attentions.
