Aftermarket CDI box or "Green-Wire Mod"

I have been looking into some semi cheap mods to perform on my bike I was just curious to see what you guys thoughts or experience are about this...

Just about everyone on the TRX450R.ORG forum praises the "Green-Wire Mod," seeing that its a free and easy mod.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the "Green-Wire Mod", it is a green wire that runs to the factory CDI box on the Honda TRX450R that supposedly when you cut it, it allows you an additional 1,000 RPMs, and appparently some how, gives a pretty decent boost to go along with other mods like an intake, jets and exhaust mods. But I'm not sure how, does it alter the amount of spark or any other ignition related adjustments?

As well as some other people are, I am also quite skeptical on cutting a wire that goes to the CDI. So I have looked into getting an Aftermarket CDI, which from what I have read so far, gives you more spark, alters the timing, and also allows you the extra 1000 RPMs like the "Green-Wire Mod", all for a price of about $100 to $200 depending on the brand.

If anyone has knowledge or any helpful opinions I would greatly appreciate them. Thanks Guys!
