Unhappy Death at Sand Mountain, NV.

went out to sand mountain, nevada last weekend 7/25/09 and saw my first death out there. a guy had a red 2 seater rail with an R1 engine it. he went out for a spin and rolled it sideways over a sand berm, rolling it sideways a few times. the rails roll cage was cheesy and got bent all to shit. the drive smashed his head on the roll cage and idk wat else, but he died. i saw it with my own eyes and even called 911 for help. the passenger got pretty jacked up but he lived. the driver was a dad and grandpa, his son and grandson were both there and watched him die as they did cpr to him tell the ambulance showed up. pretty sad stuff and it wasnt even during a big weekend. only about 4 or 5 camps out there.

A 66-year-old California man died and another man was seriously injured Saturday at Sand Mountain after their sand rail rolled over.

Timothy George Myers, of Shingle Springs, Calif., the driver of the sand rail, was pronounced dead at Sand Mountain.

The Churchill County Sheriff's Office received the report of an injury roll over accident about 6:50 p.m. on Saturday. When deputies and the ambulance arrived, CPR was in progress but Myers was unable to be resuscitated.

Mark Struble, public information office for the Bureau of Land Management, said a male passenger with Myers also sustained serious injuries and was taken to a Reno hospital by Care Flight.

Struble said the passenger was a casual acquaintance of Myers', “just a friend going for a ride.”

Churchill County Undersheriff Jim Wood said Myers was at the recreational area with family members.

It's unclear how the accident occurred, but Wood said alcohol was not a factor.

A BLM ranger was assigned to Sand Mountain on Saturday and arrived on scene within minutes, Struble said.

The last fatality at Sand Mountain was on May 18, 2008 when 34-year-old Klint Brooks of Elko died while riding his quad at midnight. Brook's cause of death was blunt force trauma to his upper body and head.
