Yeah this engine makes a lot of sense when you think about it from an efficiency standpoint.
People forget that the electricity they use in their Priuses doesn't generate itself. Sure, it doesn't produce any harmful emissions when it's used in the Prius but what about at the plant it was generated at? Somewhere, someone had to burn some coal to produce that electricity...yep, harmful emissions. But since Joe Schmoe Prius driver doesn't personally produce that emission, he can sleep well at night knowing he pretended to help the environment. Dumbass. Meanwhile, the Prius's engine has to work harder, burning additional fuel, to run the alternator constantly to recharge the battery, which is constantly being drained by fancy electronics like Navigation, Ipod radios, power seats and on board computers. Speaking of batteries, where do all these environmentally conscious Prius drivers plan on putting all their enormous, toxic as hell batteries when they're through with them? They'll all end up in the ground directly toxifying our water and soil. And what magic battery production plant were these batteries produced in that made all that plastic at no cost to the environment? You guessed it, no magic battery production plant means more pollution. The total, negative, environmental impact of electric hybrids far exceeds that of a standard automobile, but very few people understand that. |
