"CARB considers gasoline (leaded or unleaded) used in racing vehicles for testing, practice, or actual competition for and during a sanctioned racing event to be exempt from the reformulated gasoline (RFG) specifications. Competition vehicles driven to a racing event on a public highway rather than being transported on a trailer or other carrier are not racing vehicles."
The way I read this is that if the vehicle is an actual race machine and being used during races or practices, then it is legal to use race gas. So, someone needs to start a group and have a race in glamis or somewhere once a year and everyone that runs race gas just needs to enter into it. Then they can say that everytime they go ride it is just practice, therefore making it legit. I dont live in cali so this doesnt affect me yet, but it seems that everything out there eventually trickles down across the country. Correct me if this doesnt seem logical, but thats the solution I see. Is there much of a price/performance difference between something like VP110 and MS109?

There are a few gas stations I know of that sells VP 100 unleaded called "street blaze" at the pump for $7.50/gal. If your headed to Dumont, there is a gas station in Barstow called Extreme convenience by the outlet stores exit.

CARB considers gasoline (leaded or unleaded) used in racing vehicles for testing, practice, or actual competition for and during a sanctioned racing event to be exempt from the reformulated gasoline (RFG) specifications. Competition vehicles driven to a racing event on a public highway rather than being transported on a trailer or other carrier are not racing vehicles. Motor vehicles used for work, pleasure, or recreation, i.e. cars, trucks, 4X4’s, motorcycles, dirt bikes, ATV’s, dune buggies, sand rails, and other vehicles not strictly used for racing events, are not racing vehicles and gasoline used in these vehicles is not exempt from California RFG requirements. Therefore, it is illegal to sell, offer for sale, supply, and offer for supply non-complying racing fuel (leaded and unleaded) for motor vehicles in California except in competition racing vehicles.
Soooo.... according to CARB even if it is something you race with if you use it at all for recreation its not a race vehicle any more?
