Not all generators have a fuel tank on them. Smaller outside one do (like my Kipor 3K), but the ones I've seen installed in toy haulers have and fuel tank installed. You don't want a fuel station, but you'll still need a fuel tank to run the generator. Lets say you need to run the AC, really hot weekend, for 5 to 6 hours a day. The Onan 4k uses about 1/2 gallon of gas an hour under half load and 2/3 a gallon of gas under full load. Plus, you need to run it at night to cook or watch TV (if you happen to bring one). So total you run your generator for 8 hours a day, roughly 4 to 5 gallons of gas a day. If you make a 3 to 4 day run, you'll need 15 to 20 gallons of gas just for the generator. I would say this is the worse case scenario, but it can happen.

My generator on my moho had an air leak and sucked up a bunch of dirt and the thing is so old they don't make parts for it. I went and bought 2 Honda 2000 inverter generators. They are awesome and I can use them for other things too. One generator will run everything in the motorhome except the A/C. and are very fuel efficient. There is a parallel cable to hook both generators in series for an output of 4k but I haven't bought one yet but ave talked to a couple of people and they said it works great. This route isn't the cheapest or the most convenient way to go but IMO it is the most versatile and glad I did it this way.

If your rig is not equipped with most of the stuff above, you may want to look into something like this. Its not a name brand so I can't say anything about it, but its something to look at. If you go this route, put it in the bed of your truck, lock in down with a thick chain and big padlock, and plug it into your shore power outlet. It says its only 69dBA which is pretty quiet and it will run for 12 hours on 4 gallons of gas. I went to the storage place to do a few things inside and checked out the generator compartment. So I also saw a silver box with a red button on it, almost looked like a reset button? Then from the box there is a chunk of wires that goes up into the trailer. Of course the chunk of wires is in a silver insulated cover but thats what I would assume is underneath there.
so when you say hook it into the shore power you mean to buy the chord that goes from the generator to the big 3 prong plug in on the side of the trailer, the same place you'd hook into if you were going to plug into like city power from your house for example....right?
