Default what do you look for in a flat bed trailer?

i am going to build a trailer next week. i was going to try to use this as a lil side business. i am looking at building a trailer that will fit a rhino and one quad or 4 quads (deck size of approx 7ft X 15ft). it will have a single 3000# axle and one large ramp at the rear.

if you were in the market for a trailer what would you look for?
how much would you budget for a trailer like the one mentioned?
what type of floor would you want?
expanded metal or wood?
removable sides or fixed?
wider deck with internal wheel wells or a narrower deck where wheels stick out with fenders?
standard lamps or LEDs?
this trailer will be painted black. but whould you pay more for another color (color matched to your tow rig)?

thanks for the input. the build starts next week.

To keep the price down build it simple, mesh floor, 1' sides, and fenders. Id deff like removable sides though. Aztex trailers in Fontana, Ca. sells there 8x16 dual axle trailer for about $1100 OTD (+$250 for gate/ramp).

Honestly dude, I would find one in craigslist and work on that to make it meet my expectations. Two reasons, registration is cheaper, and most material is already there. In this economy especially, you may just benifit from someone else's needs. Sucks, but hey, WTF.

Anyway, What I did, really ghetto, but cost me only a couple hundred bucks, including registration.

Found a boat trailer, dude, was giving it away
dumped the boat
cut off the boat supports,
ran 4x4's across the channels,
layed down 3/4 plywood,
installed a truck tool box,
and repacked the wheel bearings.

Took about 3 days, I had all the material, I did have to replace a tire, a couple of lights, rewired it, and registration was $35. Check it out....

what type of floor would you want? wood was cheaper when I bought mine, expanded metal drove the price up quite a lot
expanded metal or wood? expanded metal will last longer, especially if you have to keep it outside
removable sides or fixed? we had ours built with a removable side on each side of the front, so you could ride a quad straight up one side and down the other
wider deck with internal wheel wells or a narrower deck where wheels stick out with fenders? wider is better, especially if someone has a longer bike, like a extended swinger, etc.
standard lamps or LEDs?standard will keep the price down, led's look better
this trailer will be painted black. but whould you pay more for another color (color matched to your tow rig)?when we bought ours it was extra to get the wood flooring painted, other than that its just treated lumber bare as is.
check out durahauler.com out of texas, we bought a 14 foot single axle and haul a 450, polaris 500 sportsman and my sons polaris outlaw 90 on it, with the 450 and 90 sideways up front and my polaris drives straight on.
I did like the idea that durahauler has of a folding rear gate, but was afraid one of the kids or me, would pinch their finger off in it, so we opted for the 4 ft gate, but it is like a sail back there, even with the expanded metal.
My exact trailer isn't pictured, but close to the atv trailer, and I paid 1200 bucks for it fully painted, with chrome wheels and new tires.
if your going to sell them, won't you have to have a license to get them registered and titled?

here you go: Durahauler, Inc. Manufacture of Custom Made Trailers at Production Prices

thanks for the input. the build starts next week.

thanks
chris

If you would like to build a trailer on your own, my company has an account with Redneck Trailer Supplies, their products are great and from what I can tell not to expensive but what do I know I'm a resaler. Anyways here is a link to their site. They are located all over the place and on Fridays they offer free delivery, atleast to where I'm located. The only thing is im not sure but they my not sell to the public, you might have to go to a company like mine.

Just a thought...15' is just shy of long enough to comfortably put four quads on it side by side. Adding another foot will give you (and your potential customers) that option.

I only mention it because we have a 7' by 16' and bought it specifically to haul 4 bikes side by side and they just barely fit.

And 7' is enough that most folks can get that through an 8ft garage door. Obviously 8' won't fit through and a 6' trailer won't allow extended bikes on sideways.
