86 trx250r
rear
skat edge 8 paddles and love them had them for over 8 years and are just now starting to show wear. Ran dune silders for one trip and didnt seem to have the hook up i wanted, but they did slide amazing.
front
kenda dune runners love the height and ride softness they offer. Seems to me like the perfect combo for my riding style Have riden 450s with mohawks and itps - mohawks no complaints just didnt seem as much point and go as the dune runners. itp though were way to rigid sidewall which caused a stiff ride.

86 atc250r
factory front tire buffed but left center row, didnt really notice a difference other than looks, front wheel is hardly ever on the ground anyways.
skat edge 9 paddle ran edge 8 paddle and sand skate II and trakkers before the 9 paddles and they 9s work the best by far allowing me to slide where ever and still have plenty of traction

05 atc450r
factory front tire buffed but left center row, never rode it with anything else, but the front wheel is never on the ground even when i want/need it to be (need alot longer swinger)
sand skate II, too much bight even with 5psi very hard to slide predictably

86 trx250x
dune sliders in my opinion the perfect tire for smaller hp machines, doesnt rob power and allows traction and sliablity
skat 10 paddle haulers way too much paddle, but handled it well.

its an old post I know but i want to know why everyone runs a 10" rear rim? a22x11x8 will inflate larger when under extreme spinning like a dragster tire which= more flotation and better contact to the sand. I just never understood why most tire companies are going away from 8's. I understand the differance in the dirt with a squared off 20" tire.

I personally prefer 22x11x8 buffed tires and will always run them on the bw bike. But have 22x11x10's on the spare shee and they work good too. It all depends on how you ride. I like the taller height for the tree shots for when they get rutted out and for looks, i don't believe they hinder me anywhere else enough to not run them. I plan on getting some 12 or 14 pdl extremes in the same size hopefully soon for my bigger motor. But we did pick up some 21x12x8 paddle brats staggered and cut for $60 that we want to try soon.

I realize this is a year late but...

On any duner that I ride agressively, I prefer the 10" rim because it allows me to dune harder with my particular riding style. You are completely correct that the 8" wheel does grab the sand better, which is a disadvantage for "MXing" in the dunes. With an 8" wheel, a big handfull of throttle will connect too good with the sand for my tastes. I like to be able to break the rear free at will since I use the axle/throttle to steer more than anything. You can get the extra float by going with a wider tire but still keeping the profile suitable for hard on-off throttle bursts.

I get what you`re saying about "MXing" thats my thing , but you just go less aggressive with the paddle so you float on top with the 8" like a balloon ! I think you`re more likely to loose your bead on big air landings with 8" rims ! For me it`s all about the MX especially at Glamis !
