When we bought the YFZ's in the Spring of 2008 I outfitted both with a full set of the ITP Sandstars before we left the dealership. They gave us the rears for each one and I bought all the fronts. The rears I don't care for but the fronts are pretty good. Mrs Senator still runs the ITP Sandstar rears on her YFZ cause she says she doesn't notice any difference so no sense in changing them out until they need it. I do notice the difference so mine got a set of Haulers after just a few outings.
The primary complaints I have are that they dig too much in the hill/tree shots and they're heavy. Advertisements claim a lightweight carcass...yeah, in comparison to lead maybe. The ITP Sandstars fronts are the best I've found AS FAR AS TURNING GOES. The mohawks are lighter and still turn nearly as well. Our single rib fronts (dune runner and dune tracker maybe?) turn as well as the mohawks, not as well as the dual rib SandStars but are also quite heavy. As far as trikes go, the ITP Sandstar has enough "grab" for turning that I would be reluctant to put it on the front of one for fear that it may catch a rut or something and buck me. For duning the mohawk is as much of a tire as I would be confortable putting on the front of a trike and maybe not even that. The smooth buff would be even a better bet since you do most of the turning by applying power to rear anyway. |
