Toomey Racing USA's TR-6 Banshee Exhaust:
courtesy of roostingthedunes.com Review: With the popularity of Aftermarket Yamaha Banshee exhaust we decided to do a review of the TR-6 pipe kit from Toomey Racing. These kits are very popular and in high demand. Toomey Racing has been in the business of developing and manufacturing high performance exhaust systems since 1974. They now concentrate mostly on Yamaha Banshee and Yamaha Blaster 2-Stroke exhaust systems for the consumer market. The TR-6 Pipes are offered in two different finishes, Factory Team Steel and Highly Polished Chrome plated. You can order several different variations of the kit in either finish. We opted for the full kit that includes: Chrome plated TR-6 pipes, Chrome plated stinger tubes, precision machined aluminum silencers, Toomey perfect jet kit, 12 Uni-Filter snap-in filtered foam airbox vents, 2 stage foam air filter, stainless mounting hardware, and full color instructions. Our kit came to us via UPS. It was very well packed and the parts were flawless. We removed the Stock Factory exhaust from our 2003 Yamaha Banshee and installed the TR-6 Kit. We have included a somewhat detailed how to page on the installation of the TR-6 pipe kit. It is located in the Tech Tips section. After we installed the entire kit we started by doing a few runs to get the feel for the power improvement. We did a plug test to assure us that our jetting was correct and not in a lean condition. We tested that throttle response and began our true testing. We started by testing where the pipes would hit in the power band. Our first impressions are that the TR-6's come on smoother than their predecessor, the T-5s. The TR-6's pull really hard from the mid through the top of the power band. The TR-6's definitely make more power than the stock pipes. Do they make more power than the T-5's? This we are unsure because we do not have a dyno to test on. The Dyno results from Toomey's Web page state that the TR-6 Produce about 8hp more than the T-5 at 8000 RPMs. Riding our 96 with T-5's and our 03 with TR-6's we would have to say that Toomey Racing has improved the performance of their pipes. We have not raced the two against each other but maybe some day we will. The TR-6s, like previous Toomey pipes, have that distinct sound over other aftermarket pipe systems. The new curves of the TR-6s look much better and fit the Banshee more like a glove than previous versions. The new stinger pipe now has an extra mount to the frame. This helps in keeping the exhaust system more rigid. We experienced no clearance problems what so ever. Conclusion: Toomey Racing has once again proved that they can produce a product better than their previous ones. We like the smoother hit into the power band of the TR-6s. The fit and finish are better than previous versions. Product Pros: Excellent fit and Finish, we did not have to trim any fender plastic. Smoother hit than the T-5s. Pulls hard from the mid to top of the power band. New three point mounting of the system. Silencers now have a high temp O-ring sealing the stinger pipe. (no more using silicone gasket maker) Product Cons: Lack luster bottom end power. (even though they are not a bottom end pipe) Overall Rating: Highly Recommended

That's a good read on a great pipe! I miss my T5's!!
Ealier this year I sold a fuel tank to rider in Oxnard, it was really cool to see an original hand made set of T4's!! This old timer had tons of stories to share & how Toomey came to be. Good stuff! Quote:

Edit: And if I may add, they also make a yfz450 slip on exhaust! Last edited by QuickSand; 09-02-2010 at 01:03 PM. Reason: Added More Info |

That was fast! I got mail!
![]() The TR6 pipe design, is for the stock engine specifically. Anytime you modify the engine where you will be altering the exhaust gas temperature, (Exhaust Port change, or compression ratio change) you will be deviating from the TR6 design capability. The reason it is the best, and works so well on a stock engine, is that it is a VERY specific design meant to maximize the potential of the stock engine, which most people actually have. It is not designed to accommodate any other port design range at all. Our T5 design DOES have this wider design capability, thus it works well on stock OR modified engines, right up into the higher RPM ranges as well. But, not AS well on the lower RPM ranges, at which a stock engine/RPM range operates, as the TR6. So, for low-end and mid range power, in the stock engine/RPM range, the TR6 is your best choice, and for modified engines, or sustained high RPM operation, the T5 is the best choice. i was always happy with the low end response i got.
i used them on my ported banshee and could keep up and sometimes beat my brothers ported banshee with the t5's. i never wanted to change to the t5 because i loved the snappy response from the t6.

Good read,Some I know wished they would of puplished their use of t-6's on stock port configurations as they had to sell the 6's and find another pipe option. As for me I have been lucky enough to have t-3's t-4's and of course the all mighty t'5's and tested the t-6's.The 5 is still the best all around configuration and as many of you know I fabed up the stinger tubes from the t-5's to fit on my cpi's and there is no better sound then toomey silencers on any engine configuration.
